The agreement includes several joint research areas.
Among the spheres mentioned in the document are energy storage, biomass recycling, and modelling of kinetic processes of in-situ petroleum oxidizing and pyrolysis. All the projects lie within the SAU EcoOil framework.
Energy storage research currently warrants new approaches to the subject, such as the use of ionic liquids and other materials. Many labs around the world work on the issue.
Another prospective area is biomass recycling. The resulting compounds, such as lignin, can be used in chemistry and medicine. Russian and Italian collaborators plan to find new materials obtainable from biomass.
Head of SAU EcoOil Mikhail Varfolomeev said the following about the third cooperation point (modelling of kinetic process), “Sapienza University of Rome is one of the world leaders in several areas. It is in the first 100 in many rankings, and cooperation with SUR can be a beneficial experience for us. Even more so because our future work is very interesting and promising. I think we have something to learn from each other”.
Young scientists at SUR will be supervised by Professor Stefano Vecchio Ciprioti. He visited KFU just a month ago to give a lecture course in thermal analysis and calorimetry.
