High-performance catalysts development for oil production, refining and petrochemistry

In this area a number of projects are implemented: the development of high-performance catalysts for the heavy oil viscosity reduction directly at the oil fields, as well as for organic monomers, oligomers and polymers production from unsaturated hydrocarbons.

Partners of the project among major petrochemical companies: PJSC “Nizhnekamskneftekhim” (testing and use of catalysts for the dehydrogenation, hydrogenation and isomerization of hydrocarbons using production facilities of the company), PJSC “Kazanorgsintez” (testing of catalysts for the hydrogenation of hydrocarbons using production facilities of the company), PJSC “Tatneft” (joint work on the catalytic reduction of oil viscosity), “Nefis Group”, the company Haldor Topsoe (Denmark) (joint development of catalysts for the dehydrogenation of hydrocarbons), Chevron (USA) (joint work in the field of environmentally friendly technologies for the production of catalysts for ethylene polymerization). Partners among universities and academic centres: Moscow State University (development of unique pilot units for testing catalysts for the dehydrogenation, hydrogenation and isomerization of hydrocarbons under conditions similar to the industrial ones), Boreskov Institute of Catalysis SB RAS (joint development of catalysts for the petrochemical industry), Institute of Chemistry of Organometallic Compounds (Italy) (development of environmentally friendly catalysts for ethylene and propylene oligomerization), Dresden University (Germany) (development of new methods for the catalysts synthesis for the petrochemical industry), the University of Greifswald  (Germany) (development of catalysts for ethylene polymerization).

The main results: to date, more than 20 new catalysts for petrochemical processes have been developed, 7 of them are used in industry and brought an additional income of several hundred mln rubles to the companies. About 10 catalysts have already been tested and will be introduced in the petrochemical industry in the coming years. PJSC “Nizhnekamskneftekhim” together with the Kazan (Volga Region) Federal University opened a catalyst production plant with the production capacity of 2,500 tonnes a year. The main results in 2015: 47 articles were published in the journals indexed in Scopus and Web of Science databases with a total impact factor of more than 50. More than 90 mln rubles was obtained (grants and commercial contracts) and 2 patents were received in 2015.
